This seminar was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I got to travel to
the USA and explore its capitol Washington DC with my new friends, but I was
also fortunate to learn what social entrepreneurship is about, theoretically
and practically.
There are so many things that I've learned, and I’ve gained, while
participating in this program, but I think one of the lessons that will
accompany me throughout my life is giving back to ones society. After our
morning classes with professor Stuart Levy, where we were introduced to various
examples of social ventures and how they work, we had the chance to visit
social ventures in the city. Seeing all those people being dedicated in
providing a better future for the people in their society was exceptional and
inspiring both at once, as it made us realize, once more, the importance of
caring about others and standing by their side when they need it the most.
One more thing that I most certainly learned throughout the program is
the importance of cooperation. Cooperation for me was a concept that I had
encountered in a more of a theoretical way, as most projects in school
encouraged individual work. In Washington, I had the opportunity to expand my
team skills in a practical way through activities and tasks that we had to
complete, but also through the projects that we were working on, for our social
ventures. They only way we could complete those tasks and be ready to present our
final projects on time, was by putting our egos aside and working together as a
team and not as individuals. At the end of the day, everything worked out
perfectly and we even realized that it was more efficient and effective working all together,
rather than separately on our own.
